Remnants can remind of ornamental rennaissance music for viola da gamba, but is distinctly branched out from a 21st century disposition. In this way the composition combines two eras that are characterized by their search for emotion in art. A technique used in Remnants is what I have named ‘remnant notes’. These notes are made by manipulating the resonant sound that exist after the bowing of a string, resulting in fragile pitch changes or pitch bending.
